This week in Entertainment Weekly’s “Bullseye” section they mentioned the blink-182 reunion. But in a rather surprising way…

The reunion no one was waiting for: blink-182

How old are the writers for Entertainment Weekly? 80? How can they possibly think that no one cared about that? Then again this is the magazine that has given a bad review to every good movie that has come out in the last 10 years. In the same section they also referred to the CW picking up the TV show Vampire Diaries as a “hit” because “it’s like Twilight for TV.” F*ck off and die Entertainment Weekly, f*ck off and die.

Limp Bizkit decide to ruin 2009

Spin.com announced today that Limp Bizkit‘s original lineup will be reuniting this year. Ugh…here’s some of the story:

The quintet’s plans were outlined in a statement posted to their official website, which said a European tour and a new album — the original lineup’s first since 2000′s Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water — are currently in the works.

“We decided we were more disgusted and bored with the state of heavy popular music than we were with each other,” lead singer Fred Durst and guitarist Wes Borland said in a joint statement. “Regardless of where our separate paths have taken us, we recognize there is a powerful and unique energy with this particular group of people we have not found anywhere else. This is why Limp Bizkit is back.”

Borland’s words are a total 180 degree turn from those he made a week ago while discussing his current project, the industrial-rock band Black Light Burns. “I have no plans on working with Limp again,” he told mlive.com. “It’s better for me for sure. I’m having a great time doing Black Light Burns.”

Borland had the right idea last week. But, my guess is that he saw how great the reaction to blink-182‘s reunion was and realized how much f*cking money they were gonna make, so he assumed the reaction to a Limp Bizkit reunion would be just as positive. And I can’t say that he’s completely wrong. There’s a lot of people out there who like horrible music, and Limp Bizkit’s next record will probably break some kind of sales record. Rest assured I’ll be on here bitching when it happens. But, in this economy, I can’t blame Borland for putting his musical integrity on the backburner for a little bit.

Also, “disgusted and bored” by the state of heavy popular music? That’s mostly YOUR fault, guys! This awful nu metal thing started around the same time you guys showed up the first time. Don’t try and act like you weren’t involved.

blink-182 to reunite at Grammys!

So it appears as though all 3 members of blink-182 are going to be on-stage together for the first time since 2005 as Grammy presenters on Sunday. It sure as hell isn’t as good as them playing, but hopefully this is a first step to an eventual reunion. I gotta say, the people in charge of organizing the Grammy Awards show are making it increasingly difficult for me to not want to watch it. I was originally planning on not watching it, then I see a commercial Radiohead performing and Dave Grohl  performing Beatles songs and now THIS? Touche’ Grammys. Touche’.

HOLY HELL! in the middle of writing this entry I came across this screenshot of a Modlife conversation between someone and Angels & Airwaves‘ David Kennedy. Looks like blink’s getting back together after all and even putting out a record! Hopefully this is legit.

It’s official…the apocalypse is nigh

Simon Fuller (creator of American Idol) has decided to turn the (for some reason) hugely popular Now That’s What I Call Music CD series into a televsion show that will no doubt showcase some of the worst music ever released.

Fuller, the mastermind behind “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” has the exclusive global rights to negotiate a TV deal based on the property. “This show will be nothing like ‘American Idol’ and definitely won’t be a spin-off,” he says. “It will be a new take on music programming.”

At the center of the show will be the hits themselves, by such acts as Britney Spears, U2 and Jay-Z. “The TV show is designed to take the brand ‘Now’ and bring it to a broader level,” says Bob Mercer, CEO of Now That’s What I Call Music, a partnership involving Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and EMI Music. (Warner Music Group has a competing product called “Only Hits.”)

“A lot of people are buying ‘Now’ as their guide to what is happening in the music world over the last few months,” Mercer says. “The intent is to take that brand and that trust in that brand and establish it as a TV show with the same elements.”

The saddest part of this little snippet is in the last paragraph: “A lot of people are buying ‘Now’ as their guide to what is happening in the music world over the last few months”. It would certainly explain why bad music keeps becoming more and more popular. People just keep buying these CDs assuming that this is what everyone is listening to so it must be good. Well, look what you’ve done people. Now this show will be taking up a timeslot that could have been used for something more productive. You know, like another Hills spin-off or another variation of A Shot at Love, Rock of Love or Flavor of Love. Ugh.

UPDATE: Speaking of the apocalypse, Tom DeLonge thinks you’ll be much more comfortable when the world ends in 2012 if you buy a pair of Macbeth shoes.

+44 over, Hoppus going solo

Ok, so MTV News isn’t COMPLETEY useless I suppose. They recently caught up with Mark Hoppus to ask him a few questions about the blink-182 reunion rumors and the future of +44.

“To answer your question about the interview at the Woodies — and, by the way, I want to thank everyone at MTV for choosing the most flattering photos possible to go in the article — the reason I wasn’t able to answer with a great deal of specificity is that I didn’t really know how to say what was going to happen. Since late August of last year, I’ve been in the studio every week writing songs with the intention of putting out a record of my own. As of this week, I’ve got about 10 songs in various stages of completion and another 10 ideas that I still want to work on. … By the way, this interview will be the first time many people at the label are going to hear about the possibility of me doing an album on my own. Hi, Interscope!”

No mention of +44…and THANK GOD. When Angels & Airwaves released We Don’t Need to Whisper I thought there was nothing that could disappoint me more. But, a few months later when +44 released When Your Heart Stops Beating, I was proven wrong. Don’t get me wrong, A&A and +44 have one or two songs here and there that I don’t mind. But, for the most part everything the former members of blink-182 have released on their own has been sub-par at best. So my expectations for Mark’s solo material are quite low.

I am however quite interested in how the upcoming New Found Glory record is going to sound seeing as how Mark produced it. If you haven’t heard the first single (“Listen to Your Friends”), I highly recommend giving it a listen.

Jonas Brothers claim blink-182 as an influence, Mark Hoppus wants money

I cant decide which one I want to bitchslap more

I can't decide which one I want to bitchslap more

I know, I know…too much blink-182 news for one day. But this actually involves the Jonas Brothers more. As odd as that might sound, get this: Kevin Jonas claims blink-182 is one of his biggest influences. Although he does stress, “I didn’t pay much attention to blink’s behavior, I was just listening to the music.”

Nice save, Kevin. Wouldn’t want all the good Christian parents out there telling their daughters they can’t listen to your band anymore because you’re influenced by the devil’s music. That would almost be as bad as not wearing your “purity ring” anymore. I mean, if you did that, people might think you were (God forbid) having sex before marriage!

But, the best part about this is not the fact that the Jonas Brothers claimed blink as an influence. Nor is it the fact that Kevin Jonas tried to backpedal in the interview to save his good, wholesome “Christian” image. It is the fact that Mark Hoppus caught wind of this interview, posted a link to it on his blog and asked simply, “does this mean we get royalties?”

Here’s to you, Mark. Here’s to you.

Travis Barker (apparently not satisfied by the fact that he is still alive) to sue Learjet company over crash

Travis and DJ AM.....pre-crash

Travis and DJ AM.....pre-crash

A story came out today that Travis Barker is suing Clay Lacy Aviation, Global Exec Aviation, Inter Travel Services, Goodyear and aircraft manufacturer Bombardier Inc. over the September 9th plane crash that he and DJ AM were involved in.

Let me start this by saying that I am a drummer and have been a pretty big fan of Travis for quite some time now. With that said, he has lost a decent amount of my respect today. Granted, I have never been involved in a plane crash nor do I ever wish to be. But it seems to me that crashing is just sort of a possibility you accept when you board a plane….especially one of those scary-ass private planes.

I also found it kind of odd DJ AM was not involved in this lawsuit. The only other person involved in the suit is the bodyguard’s mother. Maybe they’re letting Travis test the waters and see if there is any money to be made out of it. Because you know if he wins everyone else remotely involved in that crash is gonna try and sue them too.
